I've been getting people saying that the site does not display correctly for them for some time now.

I have a very simple solution for you.  In fact, three choices for you:

1) Upgrade Internet Explorer to the latest version:
Internet Explorer 8
2) Download and use Mozilla Firefox 3
Mozilla Firefox
3) Download and use Google Chrome
Google Chrome 

If you do that, you'll find that it all works correctly in any of those three browsers.
